Hey everybody,
Face primers have really gained a lot of popularity in the makeup industry in the past few years. But still many of us either don't use it or are unaware about its uses and effects.
In layman terms, a primer would exactly do what a good pair of lingerie does to your figure. It will even out, conceal and helps to stay in place anything you put on top of it. :) :) So cool right!!
Uses of Face Primers
So if you want to shrink the pores, mattify, even out the discoloration or add luminosity to your face a primer would do it all. Just understand the need suited for your skin type and choose accordingly. Also it creates a perfect smooth base for your foundation to adhere better and last longer.
How to Use
Always put on the primer on a pre-moisturized skin. Use a pea size amount and apply it to your entire face targeting your problem areas like large pores, fine lines, redness etc. Wait for about 2-5 minutes to apply foundation.
My skin type is usually combination to oily with pores near the nose and cheeks. Therefore, I always pick up primers with mattifying, pore minimizing and oil-control properties.
I have used quite a few primers from Mac & Benefit to Rimmel & Colorbar. Below in the picture are my current favorites. Now lets talk them!!
1. Benefit POREfessional Face Primer
This is an oldie but a goodie primer. This definetly helps my pores appear smaller and smooths fine lines too. It comes in a sleek pale blue and white tube with a light skin colored product which blends to no color leaving a siliconish and silky finish. I have used this for 2 years and I go back and froth to apply it underneath the foundation. I think it is a very versatile product & a safe option for beginners. It does a decent job in blurring the pores and keeps the makeup put for about 6-7 hours which is not bad at all!!
I am sorry for this dirty tube in the picture as it was lying with my broken bronzer while travelling a few weeks back. (So that explains the mess :o)
Price: Rs 2230 available at Sephora Stores in India :)
2. NYX Pore Filler
Face primers have really gained a lot of popularity in the makeup industry in the past few years. But still many of us either don't use it or are unaware about its uses and effects.

My Top 5 Favorite Face Primers |
1. Benefit POREfessional Face Primer

It comes in a sleek pale blue and white tube with a light skin colored product which blends to no color leaving a siliconish and silky finish. NYX pore filler is the exact dupe of the POREfessional I mentioned above. It does the exact same job in blurring the pores and feels the same way on the skin as the POREfessional. It also has the same light skin color which blends into nothing. It is also almost the same formula with oil-free & talc-free ingredients. The only difference I feel is that the consistency of this product is a bit thicker so it takes me a few extra minutes to blend it into my skin, which is actually no big deal.So if you want a cheaper alternative, definitely try this baby. The favorite part is the price!! I got this from USA for $14 so it was a lot cheaper than the POREfessional. :)
Price: $14 (also available at Ebay or Amazon for Rs 2000 or around )
3. Smashbox Photo Finish More than a Primer - Blemish Control
Smashbox is known name for primers especially the photo finish range. I have already used the regular Photo Finish earlier which comes in a transparent tube. It was a decently good product. So when I saw the same line with Blemish Control I grabbed it (even though I could only get my hands on the travel size). This primer is very unique which has 2% salicylic acid which is so cool for those breakout weeks and acne prone girls where applying all that foundation & bronzers make it worse. This primer helps my oily skin calmer and kills the acne creating bacteria too. It definitely mattifies and helps the foundation stick better & longer for about 5-6 hours. The product has a white cream like texture which blends so so so quickly and sheer. Even though its oil-free it feels more hydrating than the above two. Nothing I can complain!!
Price: $13 for travel size tube (I bought it from Sephora USA, try searching it online though)
4. Victoria's Secret Fresh Face Gel Brightening Cream - Supermodel Approach
Now this product maybe isn't retailed as a face primer but because it evens out my skin, creates a velvety base & makes my foundation glide like butter (yes!! it does) so it fairly makes it to my primer list. I usually use this one at night as it has a bit luminosity to it which gives a perfect dewy finish to my skin without looking greasy as its gel-based infused with caffeine. This product is not too hydrating so I do layer a very thin layer of moisturizer beneath. It has a light pinky color and blends colorless with a glowy fine radiance (which I love and you can see it below in this picture!!) . Oh yeah, it doesn't make me breakout too. I am not sure if this helps the makeup to stay longer as I always use a makeup setting spray after it finish doing makeup.
5. Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure
This is hands down my favorite primer. It is my "anytime of the day" primer. It is made for sensitive skin which is oil-free, translucent, scent free gel like texture. This one is a white tube which also comes in a pink tube which is for normal skin (so don't mix em up). This will surely reduce pores, mattifies (alot) and blends like a dream on the skin (that's why I love it!). It doesn't leave your skin with too silicon-y feel (like POREfessional & Pore Filler) rather makes it smooth and silky which makes the makeup application easier and flawless. It makes my makeup literally stay all day and never harms my skin. I am using this for maybe 6 months now and each time it gives visible results. I bought it online from beautybay.com but you can check other websites too.
Price: $30 on beautybay.com
There are a few more I love like Mac Prep+Prime face visage, Body Shop All in one Insta Blur etc but I have emptied those. I would definitely try some new ones soon and update it for you. Also let me know if you want me review and show my eye primers in the comment section below.
Thank you for reading, I really hope you enjoyed. Loads of Love!
