Primer Lesson 1: Face Primers & My Favorites!!

Hey everybody,

Face primers have really gained a lot of popularity in the makeup industry in the past few years. But still many of us either don't use it or are unaware about its uses and effects.
In layman terms, a primer would exactly do what a good pair of lingerie does to your figure. It will even out, conceal and helps to stay in place anything you put on top of it. :) :) So cool right!!

Uses of Face Primers
So if you want to shrink the pores, mattify, even out the discoloration or add luminosity to your face a primer would do it all. Just understand the need suited for your skin type and choose accordingly. Also it creates a perfect smooth base for your foundation to adhere better and last longer.

How to Use
Always put on the primer on a pre-moisturized skin. Use a pea size amount and apply it to your entire face targeting your problem areas like large pores, fine lines, redness etc. Wait for about 2-5 minutes to apply foundation.

My skin type is usually combination to oily with pores near the nose and cheeks. Therefore, I always pick up primers with mattifying, pore minimizing and oil-control properties.
I have used quite a few primers from Mac & Benefit to Rimmel & Colorbar. Below in the picture are my current favorites. Now lets talk them!!
My Top 5 Favorite Face Primers

1. Benefit POREfessional Face Primer
This is an oldie but a goodie primer. This definetly helps my pores appear smaller and smooths fine lines too. It comes in a sleek pale blue and white tube with a light skin colored product which blends to no color leaving a siliconish and silky finish. I have used this for 2 years and I go back and froth to apply it underneath the foundation. I think it is a very versatile product & a safe option for beginners. It does a decent job in blurring the pores and keeps the makeup put for about 6-7 hours which is not bad at all!!
I am sorry for this dirty tube in the picture as it was lying with my broken bronzer while travelling a few weeks back. (So that explains the mess :o)
Price: Rs 2230 available at Sephora Stores in India :)

2. NYX Pore Filler
NYX pore filler is the exact dupe of the POREfessional I mentioned above. It does the exact same job in blurring the pores and feels the same way on the skin as the POREfessional. It also has the same light skin color which blends into nothing. It is also almost the same formula with oil-free & talc-free ingredients. The only difference I feel is that the consistency of this product is a bit thicker so it takes me a few extra minutes to blend it into my skin, which is actually no big deal.So if you want a cheaper alternative, definitely try this baby. The favorite part is the price!! I got this from USA for $14 so it was a lot cheaper than the POREfessional. :)
Price: $14 (also available at Ebay or Amazon for Rs 2000 or around )

3. Smashbox Photo Finish More than a Primer - Blemish Control
Smashbox is known name for primers especially the photo finish range. I have already used the regular Photo Finish earlier which comes in a transparent tube. It was a decently good product. So when I saw the same line with Blemish Control I grabbed it (even though I could only get my hands on the travel size). This primer is very unique which has 2% salicylic acid which is so cool for those breakout weeks and acne prone girls where applying all that foundation & bronzers make it worse. This primer helps my oily skin calmer and kills the acne creating bacteria too. It definitely mattifies and helps the foundation stick better & longer for about 5-6 hours. The product has a white cream like texture which blends so so so quickly and sheer. Even though its oil-free it feels more hydrating than the above two. Nothing I can complain!!
Price: $13 for travel size tube (I bought it from Sephora USA, try searching it online though)

4. Victoria's Secret Fresh Face Gel Brightening Cream - Supermodel Approach
Now this product maybe isn't retailed as a face primer but because it evens out my skin, creates a velvety base & makes my foundation glide like butter (yes!! it does) so it fairly makes it to my primer list. I usually use this one at night as it has a bit luminosity to it which gives a perfect dewy finish to my skin without looking greasy as its gel-based infused with caffeine. This product is not too hydrating so I do layer a very thin layer of moisturizer beneath. It has a light pinky color and blends colorless with a glowy fine radiance (which I love and you can see it below in this picture!!) . Oh yeah, it doesn't make me breakout too. I am not sure if this helps the makeup to stay longer as I always use a makeup setting spray after it finish doing makeup.
Price: $21 from VS store USA (not sure about the availabilty in India)

5. Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure
This is hands down my favorite primer. It is my "anytime of the day" primer. It is made for sensitive skin which is oil-free, translucent, scent free gel like texture. This one is a white tube which also comes in a pink tube which is for normal skin (so don't mix em up). This will surely reduce pores, mattifies (alot) and blends like a dream on the skin (that's why I love it!). It doesn't leave your skin with too silicon-y feel (like POREfessional & Pore Filler) rather makes it smooth and silky which makes the makeup application easier and flawless. It makes my makeup literally stay all day and never harms my skin. I am using this for maybe 6 months now and each time it gives visible results. I bought it online from beautybay.com but you can check other websites too.
Price: $30 on beautybay.com

There are a few more I love like Mac Prep+Prime face visage, Body Shop All in one Insta Blur etc but I have emptied those. I would definitely try some new ones soon and update it for you. Also let me know if you want me review and show my eye primers in the comment section below.

Five Trendy Lipshades for the Fall and Winters!!

Hey Everybody,

This season tune in with the festive fashion and go bold with the perfect lip shades for fall. Make an edgy statement with plums and berry tones. All the lippie hoarders are going to love this post and all those who are in mood for trying something new and different this season will thoroughly enjoy too.
In this post I have given lip swatches and also three similar options with each shade I have mentioned. :)

1.      Dusty Rose or Muted Berry
After years and years of trending deep maroons and marsala each fall, it is time to go a bit more fun this time with soft berries. This shade is so so versatile as it suits almost every skin colour. It is a perfect shade for people who don’t feel comfortable wearing true burgundy and wild maroons. It is a perfect everyday fall shade.
The lip colour in the picture is from Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Shade Copenhagen. This colour is very fall and a warm berry toned, yet no so vampy.

Other very similar and great options are:
Chambor (Powder Matte Finish) in shade 156 Rose Fresque
Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream in shade 18 (exact dupe for the NYX one :P)
Estee Lauder Double Wear lipstick in shade 06 Stay Plumberry

2.      Rich Plum
If you are in a full mood to shout autumn then this is a perfect shade. A creamy rich dark plum with hues of purple is a great option for olive toned and dusky complexion. For a special evening or neutral eyes this lip shade is a bit vampy and chic at the same time.
The lip colour worn in the picture is from Rimmel London Lasting Finish in shade 120 Cutting Edge. It is a strong plum with a hint of purple in it. It is such a bold and a classy shade!!

Other very similar and great options are:
Mac Rebel (satin finish)
Maybelline colour essential in shade 996 Berry Brilliant
Urban Decay Lipstick in shade Venom

3.      Hot Cocoa
It is not just a favourite fall drink but also a trendy lippie. A rich saucy cool toned brown with earthy undertones is a perfect shade for all those who are tired of berries and purple shades and yet want to swing in the cozy mood. This is a very unique shade which is not totally a deep dark chocolate. Pairing this shade with a warm pop of blush on the cheeks will make it even more suitable to pull off this fall.
The lip colour worn in this picture is from Bobbi Brown in shade 31 Cocoa. This is a true cool toned semi-matt medium brown perfect for daytime looks.

Other very similar and great options are:
Mac Touch (Lustre Finish)
Maybelline Superstay 14hr in shade 045 Lasting Chestnut
Dior Rouge Dior Couture colour in shade Unique (Limited Edition)

4.      Spicy Sienna
For all those beauties who want to rock a bright lip shade in fall and don’t wanna do coral, fuchsia, pastels or firey-reds then this is the perfect fall shade for you. This is a bright pumpkin-orange shade with a hint of spicy red in it. This colour is perfect for parties and even looks great on fairer skin tones. Teaming up a bold wing with this lip shade is going to look flattering and fabulous this season.
The Lip colour worn in the picture is from LaSplash Lip cotoure Liquid Lipstick in shade Till Midnight.

Other very similar and great options are:
Bobbi Brown Lip Color in shade Atomic Orange
Lime Crime in shade Suede Berry
Mac So Chaud (matte)

5.      Almost nude
The most wearable and to-go lippie forever for fall is a mid-tone pinky brown. You can never go wrong with this one. A perfect blend of brown and pink creates a universal nudey shade which suites all skin tones. It is neither too cool nor too warm. You can totally rock this shade with glittery eye look or dark smokey eyes this holiday and wedding season and look ultra glam.
The Lip colour worn in the picture is Mac’s Cosmo (Amplified). It is a buttery finish lippie and a safe option when you are confused in choosing your natural lip winter day!

Other very similar and great options are:
Nars Audacious lipstick in Anita
Inglot Lipstick in shade 13
Chambor Matte lipstick in Dessert Rose

These are a few trending lip options for this fall which are my favourite.
